Careers in the Liverpool Area

First you have to enrol with Liverpool City Council. All you need to do is ring 0151 233 3015 to make an appointment. Bring along your full driver’s license (both parts), some form of ID (either your passport or birth certificate), and £91 for the private hire license. Once your application is processed, you will be enrolled as a private hire driver with Liverpool City Council.

What happens then?

Once you’ve enrolled with Liverpool City Council, you can join our VQR course ‘Introduction to the Role of the Professional Taxi Driver.’ You will be expected to complete a street knowledge module, and a short course on the importance of tourism to the economy of Liverpool.

How long will the course take?

The course only lasts 4 days, spread over a month long period. There also short, intensive courses available which are completed within one week. Contact us to see when the next course is due to start. We can also do weekend or evening courses, subject to demand. The course costs £75 to new drivers, but this is refundable upon commencement of employment with Alpha Taxis.

What do you receive at the end of the course?

Once you’ve completed the course, you will receive a Part 1 Certificate. You then take this to Liverpool City Council and collect your Private Hire Driver’s Badge. Now you can start work for Alpha Taxis!

Anything else I need to know?

Within 12 months of completing your Part 1 Certificate you will be asked to complete a Level 2 NVQ in Road Passenger Transport. This is free to Alpha Taxis employees.
